For 2007, the Lexus IS line-up receives new trim packages: the IS 250 RWD model can be optioned with the X1 Package of 18-inch alloy wheels and tires and stainless steel scuff plates and illuminated ‘Lexus’ scuff plates, or X2 Package of sport suspension, 18-inch tires and alloy wheels, leather interior, 10-way power adjustable driver and passenger seats, stainless steel scuff plates, and illuminated ‘Lexus’ scuff plates.
The IS line-up consists of the IS 250, which uses a 2.5-litre V6, producing 204 hp, and the IS 350, which uses a 3.5-litre V6 with direct and port injection, producing 306 hp and a zero-to-100 km/h acceleration time of less than six seconds. The IS 250 is available in rear- or all-wheel drive, while the IS 350 is rear-wheel only. All are four-door sedans.
The IS 250 RWD uses a six-speed manual transmission that can be optioned to a six-speed automatic; features include 16-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, six-CD/MP3 satellite-ready stereo with thirteen speakers, sport fabric seats, heated mirrors, variable intermittent wipers, fog lamps, driver and passenger knee airbags, pushbutton start, cruise control and tire pressure monitoring system.
The IS 250 AWD uses the six-speed automatic, and adds 17-inch alloy wheels and power driver’s seat.
The IS 350 uses the six-speed automatic, and adds 17-inch alloy wheels, ten-way power heated front seats, premium leather interior, and light control system.
The IS family offers the luxury sports sedan experience at a relatively low price; putting the 250’s manual six-speed through its paces is great fun, and it’s a shame the bigger engine can’t be controlled manually either. The suspension is extremely tight and responsive, although road imperfections do make their presence known. Otherwise, the cabin is extremely quiet, the seats are comfortable if a bit tight for rear-seat passengers, styling is sleek and quality is excellent.
